My endorsements for Thursday's Club Election

To my friends at the Amateur Radio Club of El Cajon.

Yes, I know the club election for new officers is this Thursday, Dec 8th. As most of you know, I did spend quite a bit of time with the club and would still be there physically if only I lived in the area. Of course I am still wanting to be active, and serve the club however I can.

I have decided to endorse a few candidates for office:

President:   Steve Weed KO4QT
Vice Pres     Nick Prodanovich AD6UK

Treasurer:     Michael Grogan KJ6LRB
Secretary:     Karen Halloway KJ6DWX
Directors:
Mike Maston N6OPH          Dave Ward KI6GRN
Daniel Warner KJ6IOB     Raymond Boisvert W1CTM
Tom Wilson KI6ABZ          Tuck Miller NF9T

Steve, Karen and Michael are running unopposed.

Nick is running for Vice President.  I have been friends with Nick for a short time, and in that short time, I have found Nick to be cool headed, slow to anger, and wanting to do what is best for this club.

I have listed 6 candidates for the Director's position. All of whom have already served on the board at least once.   Some of them have even contributed to the Counterpoise when asked.  They have demonstrated their willingness to serve this club.
Nothing at all against the other candidates, I simply do not know them well enough to actually endorse them.

Of course, you see my name as well.  I would appreciate your vote.  73

What is going on?

Hey everyone, welcome to my ham radio blog. Have not really typed much on this site, but thought I would take a short time to say a few words to my friends, and especially to those in the Amateur Radio Club of El Cajon.

Many of you know I am running for a directors position within the club. Do I expect to win? No. Would I like to win? Of course I do. Why am I doing it?  Simply because of the love I have for this club. It was my very 1st Amateur Radio Club, and those who really know me, know I would never do anything to hurt it.

I have heard some ugly rumors that I have been saying some bad stuff about the club and various members.  I have one thing to say about that, HOGWASH!!  Do I agree with everything that is going on within the club right now, of course not. Let's agree that it is not the same club as when I 1st joined in 1991.

I don't agree with some of the newer policies that have come down the pike lately, especially the one where WAMO numbers were issued to those not holding an Amateur Radio license. It was not originally set up that way. Now, they are saying that the WAMO numbers are being used as a way of identification.  There was a much simpler way. Let me use my WAMO number for an example. My WAMO number is 909. If my wife was not a ham, her ID number would be 909-1 or even 909-a Any dependents would be identified the same way.  I don't think it's that hard. There are other things I don't agree with, but I am a team player. If that's what the club majority wants, so be it.

I do think it's a great idea to get the kids involved in the club. Imagine two kids running the WAMO net on Saturday nites, and a teenager being appointed the field day chair. They all have been doing a great job. Speaking of a great job, the webmaster, a teen, is doing a bang up job.

Back to the position of Director.  Many folks that I would not be able to edit the Counterpoise.  I hope I proved that I can.  I can not do it alone as it is a club effort.  I love getting submissions from the members. The same thing goes with actually holding an office, even tho I live 2,000 miles away.  With applications like Skype, I can actually be at the meetings.  If some one on that end has the ability to connect up with the internet, we can hook up, and there I am.  On Tuesday nites, I would have to be a bit late, as I don't finish my bowling until about 9:30, and by the time I get home it is about 9:45, 7:45 San Diego time, so I may not be on time for the Board meetings, but the general meetings, I have no conflicts on meeting nites.  The meeting would start at 9pm my time, but I would be there.

Folks, if you ever hear some one say I am trying to tear the club down, please, do not believe them.  If you do, please send me an e-mail, and I promise, I will always answer within a 24 hour time period. When I was your club president many years ago, I made it a priority to help this club, and my priorities have not changed.

Let's give this director position a chance, let's see how it works.

My e-mail is nf9t@arrl.org and my phone number is 217-298-0591.  You can also contact me on Echolink or Skype.

73 everyone.

Who is Tuck?

Tuck is a transplanted Midwesterner, who moved to San Diego in September of 1984. As you read some of his blogs, you will find those good old traditional values come thru. At least we hope so. He will tell you exactly how he feels, no holds barred. Remember, the words you will see on these blogs are only his opinion of things, events and people as he sees them. He will talk about a few people who have made his ham radio life good, and he will also talk about those who made it bad. Are you up to the task?

He obtained his ham ticket in August of 1991, not as long as others, but more than some. He upgraded to Extra in April or May of 2000.
